    I've really got to try tube glue, I use tube construction adhesive (thick PU glue) and it's hit or miss for a lot of construction work but that PU glue you use doesn't seem to expand like the liquid stuff I've tried. Also you don't appear to wet one side either.

    It looks like you cut your pins and tails separately, I do both at once on my jig. Is there a reason for that? When tearout is critical I use a scrap underneath my timber and just keep pushing it along with the work, just 3mn mdf or ply.

    • @BradshawJoinery
      @BradshawJoinery 22 часа назад

      Because they are uneven spacing dovetails. I keep the pins as small as they go but the tailed spaced wider for aesthetic reasons so you have to machine each part separately. It also looks more bespoke than even spaced dovetails👍

    Hi,do you not use the cuttable plastic inserts to go between the fingers to stop the router falling in,as I see you have slightly fallen in time the tail,I understand that you don't see them, perhaps you have run out of inserts,it surprised me slightly with your attention to detail that you omitted this detail.

    • @BradshawJoinery
      @BradshawJoinery 3 дня назад

      I found it a bit unnecessary and actually slightly advantageous with the PU glue to have a small cavity there, it reduces the glue squeeze as any glue in that socket has to go somewhere when clamped up. Yeah i have the inserts, but it doesn't need it for strength and its quicker not to use them, just have to be careful you router the right bit and you clear all the material hence a dip. Well spotted though it's one of them unknowns i mull over while working, should i/ shouldn't i and the advantages of both..... haha.

    I have knocked thousands of drawers up glued squared as an apprentice (Slave ) it was boring as he**. In the machine shop the dovetail machine man Bert was making dovetails day in and day out must have pushed his hand in and out in his sleep. There was a huge belt sander they put the drawer sides through. It was a boring job a new victim (apprentice) was so bored he accidentally put his hand in by mistake a trail of blood up the stairs to the first aid station he lived to push drawer fronts another day. Bert the dovetail man always had earphones on when listening to music depending on the music he went fast or slow singing whatever song he had on. They used to cling film the apprentice and either hang him upside down from a rafter or stick him on a trolley with no trousers they would press the lift button and they would end up in the polishing shop which was full of ladies. You're giving me nightmares making those drawers it's all coming back to me. :) ..PS The furniture ended up being fitted to the QE2 very posh. You could not see the apprentices all you could see were Drawers stacked floor to ceiling with the sound of the drawers getting knocked together not forgetting the distinct aroma of of horse glue

    Another excellent video, I appreciate all of the details you are presenting. When beveling stock on the shaper, I prefer to tilt the spindle and use a straight cutter. The geometry of the tool path is different than using a bevel cutter. The cutter on a tilted spindle rises and falls relative to the table, I think it is less likely to cause any tear out.
